Best Destinations for Low-Cost Vacations

Dominica - This island has rugged mountains and lush forests, but it lacks great beaches. The lack of tourist boom is good news for bargain hunters. If you enjoy lush settings and landscapes, Dominica is for you.

The Dominican Republic - This island nation is one of the cheapest destinations in West Indies. Recently, luxurious resorts are under development and these will have high prices.

Jamaica - Sure, there is a long list of posh resorts and pricey all-inclusives here. Bu beyond these guarded compounds there is another Jamaica where the prices are most appealing. You will always find affordable B&B's and small inns that will not break your budget.

Puerto Rico - Ignore the ritzy resorts, Puerto Rico is filled with B&Bs, small inns, and even governement-run paradors out in the countryside, where you can stay for a fraction of the price you'd pay along the Condado in San Juan.

Saba - Only 5 square miles, it's not everyone's cup of tea, But if you can do without great beaches, try this volcanic island which is ringed with steep cliffs and offers some of the finest diving in the Carribean. The hotels are some of the most affordable, too.

St. Eustatius - Perfect for people on lean budget. You'll just have to forgo white-sand beaches for some gray or black-sand ones. However, it's filled with terrific hiking trails and panoramic dive sites that line the coast and the islanders are very friendly.
